Suspected Arson Destroys Equipment

It is with great sadness that we share with our RCLL families that today (Friday, June 20, 2008), around 3PM our portable restrooms were set on fire. All 3 burned to the ground immediately. The intense heat then damaged our main storage shed causing about a 90% loss of our items. Everything from our pitching machine and equipment to our American flag was destroyed. Brand new equipment was melted immediately. Our sound equipment and the electricity to run our Major Field scoreboard was damaged.

This is a suspected arson and suspicious persons were in the area and that information
was reported to police. If you have any information regarding this attack on our league facilities, please contact the Rancho Cordova Police department or leave an anonymous tip on our league hotline.

This is a terrible loss for the league
- we will need to replace baseball equipment, field maintenance items, propone tanks, coolers, a bbq grill and many other items, including those items that were donated for the upcoming RCLL hosted All Star 9-10 year old and 10-11 year old tournament taking place between June 30, and July 14, 2008.

People have asked if we will still host the tournament, this is a definite yes! We are RCLL and our league is stronger and larger than ever. Extra work and effort is going to be required, but we are confident we can pull off a more successful tournament based on the determination of many people in our community of baseball and Rancho Cordova.

We need your help! We have had a scheduled field maintenance day for Saturday, June 21, to prepare for All Stars. Our to do list has grown with today’s fire! We still need help tomorrow beginning at 8AM, but please understand we will be working out more of the details as we work through the day since we now have two jobs, preparing for All Stars and recovering from the fire.

We will need to have a second field maintenance day next week, that date and time is TBD.

As many of our shovels, rakes and other equipment were damaged, please feel welcome to bring your own tools.

It’s more important than ever that we rebound from this senseless attack and pull off a successful tournament for our city and kids.

Thank you to Mr. McGarvey, Mr. Sanders and Mrs. Pearl from the City of Rancho Cordova for their support and outreach to those in our community to help us with donations, equipment replacement and other services that we are in immediate need of.

Thank you to the Cordova Junior Lancers for their support.

Thank you very much to the parent who made the 911 call to alert emergency personnel of this senseless attack. We know who you are and your quick response is very much appreciated!

People have asked how they can help:

Ask local businesses to make donations to the league so we can replace our lost items and purchase what we need to run a successful tournament
Those who can provide services to help us with painting, fixing our electricity- please contact us!
Ask everyone in our community to attend all RCLL All-Star games and support our kids (brackets to be on the RCLL website early next week)

Donations/questions can be addressed to:

Kristy Elder: 821-4127

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you to everyone for their kind thoughts, concerns and prayers.
