In
the past years, RCLL has offered various
methods of raising funds, in addition to
the registration fees, to help run the league
and provide benefits to make the Little League
experience enjoyable for kids and their families.
This has consisted of the families either
selling a $52 box of candy, or paying a $30
buyout fee at registration time. Additionally,
families have been asked to either volunteer
time at the snack shack during the year (usually
on the night of their player’s game),
or find (and possibly pay) someone to work
their shift.
Last
year RCLL started new program this year to
promote volunteerism, or provide funds for
the league to pay others (typically local
youths) to assist in the many areas necessary
to run the league. This program asks each
family to deposit $50, in addition to the
annual registration fee, at the time of registration
(families with multiple children in the league
only deposit a total of $50, not $50 per
child). If the family performs 6 hours of
volunteer work during the season, the $50
will be refunded. If the family performs
less than 6 hours of volunteer work, a pro-rata
share of the $50 will be refunded.
Activities
that will qualify for the refund are those
critical to operating the league. These include
snack shack duty, umpiring games, scorekeeping,
and field maintenance. For those who are
not able to volunteer, we will utilize the
deposited funds to pay for those tasks for
which we need help. This may include paying
for umpires, kids to work in the snack shack,
and scorekeepers.
We
will also have a board member who will be
responsible for doing all of the scheduling.
You can schedule your volunteer time as is
convenient for you. It doesn’t have
to be at the same time as your player’s
games. If your schedule prevents you from
volunteering, the scheduler will take care
of filling the spot. No more calling around
to find your own replacement.
Lastly,
we will have limited additional fundraising
activities (no need to sell candy anymore).
Any additional fundraising activities will
be purely optional. Our desire is to involve
as many family members and friends as possible
to help make RCLL successful. But we know
many of you have very busy schedules, so
we hope that we can simplify your lives as
well by organizing a team of our youths to
fill in when you’re not available.
We
thank you in advance for your support of
this pilot program. We hope that it will
promote a sense of community, help make our
league run smoothly, and make everyone’s
lives a little less complicated.
